National Taxpayers Union’s Free Trade Initiative Director Bryan Riley on Thursday issued a statement in response to President Donald Trump’s new reciprocal tariffs on imports.
“President Donald Trump said in the past he wants ‘to work together toward zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers, and zero subsidies.’
“If President Trump wants true trade reciprocity he should reduce excessive U.S. barriers that currently increase the cost of goods ranging from clothing to sugar, while simultaneously reducing non-tariff barriers like the Jones Act and Biden’s green energy subsidies.
“We urge President Trump to pursue zero-tariff reciprocity and to reject broad-based tariffs that undermine his efforts to combat the high cost of goods like fuel, food, housing, and automobiles through regulatory and tax reforms.”
