"The tax code is difficult [to simplify or overhaul] because the provisions in the tax code are there for a reason. They are put in by special interests that are very powerful," says Brandon Arnold, executive vice president of the National Taxpayers Union. "They're fighting tooth and nail to make sure their industries are protected."
