NTU Joins Coalition Effort to Preserve Consumer Choice for Cars

National Taxpayers Union (NTU) today joined 26 other organizations on a letter urging Congress to oppose an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule that would effectively ban traditional automobiles and mandate the use of electric vehicles.

The letter encourages Congress to support H.J. Res. 136, introduced by Reps. John James (R-MI) and Russ Fulcher (R-ID). Their resolution would block the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule using authority provided in the Congressional Review Act, a law that allows Congress to overrule regulations by passing a resolution of disapproval.

The EPA rule would impose car and light truck emissions standards that are so strict that the only way manufacturers could meet them would be by replacing conventional gas vehicles with electric vehicles.

The choice of vehicles available to American consumers should not be dictated by unjustified federal regulations. The rule is simply an EV mandate under a different name. Congress should reject this EPA overreach.
