NTU Calls for Clean Continuing Resolution

National Taxpayers Union (NTU) today called upon Congress to redouble its efforts toward drafting and passing a “clean” continuing resolution that keeps the government funded without excessive new burdens on taxpayers. H.R. 10445, the Further Continuing Appropriations and Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act contains tens of billions in increased emergency spending and unvetted extraneous policy riders.

NTU Senior Policy and Government Affairs Manager Nicholas Johns issued the following statement.

“As currently proposed, the funding package continues the harmful holiday tradition of jamming members of Congress with hundreds of pages of bill text right before leaving town. While NTU may support individual items in the continuing resolution text, the process for passing these items should have proceeded in regular order. With such a panoply of provisions from paying for the Francis Scott Key bridge replacement, to over five hundred pages of health care changes, all the way to hotel price transparency, this provides little opportunity for substantive review or input from the vast majority of Congress or the taxpaying public.

“Congressional leadership still has time to change course and instead push for a clean continuing resolution, free of extraneous policy riders, to allow the incoming President Trump and his administration input on critical legislative decisions.”
