National Taxpayers Union (NTU) Executive Vice President Brandon Arnold on Wednesday praised passage of the blueprint for tax cuts and spending reductions and called on the U.S. Senate to take up the measure immediately.
“This win is critically important for taxpayers. Last night’s passage of the budget kick-starts two processes: the first will lock in the Trump tax cuts before most of them expire at the end of the year. The second will reduce the trillions in debt that are dragging down future prosperity for our kids and grandkids.
“Congratulations to Speaker Johnson and House Republicans for succeeding with this important first step.
“Now the Senate must pass the same budget so the reconciliation process can begin. That process will be challenging but it’s critical to strengthening our nation’s fiscal condition.
“Lawmakers must get to work now to identify honest spending reductions. They should avoid gimmicks like extending user fees far into the future to pay for unrelated spending, or counting on savings from rulemakings that Congress itself has delayed. These schemes are complex, but NTU is not fooled by them, and taxpayers aren’t either.
“It is essential for Congress to prioritize improving the U.S. fiscal condition with spending cuts to reduce red ink in our nation’s budget. NTU is ready to work with the House and Senate to ensure that the next steps of reconciliation lead to lower taxes for American families and businesses, a leaner, more efficient federal government, and a brighter economic future for all.”
