Which States Have Delayed Tax Payments or Filings?

With the announcement of legislation to delay federal tax filing and payment deadlines in response to COVID-19, as NTUF called for last week, states are moving quickly to provide affected individuals and businesses with relief from their state tax burdens as well. Some states, such as California are providing 90 days delays of tax filings and payments, while others have yet to issue guidance. As is often the case with state tax policy, states are forming a patchwork of delays and deadlines for tax filings and payments.

Providing relief is a critical way state governments can assist in a necessary fiscal response, by allowing taxpayers to keep more of their income to weather the economic storm. It also ensures that individuals and businesses can stay home and avoid crowds during this important time and instead focus on keeping their families, friends, and communities safe.

The table below catalogues state guidance on tax payment and tax filing delays. States are moving quickly and we will update this page regularly as more information becomes available.
