Daniel Barrett is the Research and Outreach Manager for the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, the research and education arm of the National Taxpayers Union.

He studies the projected spending effects of current and proposed government policies, contributing to the Foundation’s primary project BillTally. The program tracks the impact of introduced legislation on the size of the federal budget. During election season, he authors proposed agenda studies on select House, Senate, and Presidential candidates. He also communicates the Foundation’s research products through print sources, social media, and the Foundation’s weekly Taxpayer’s Tab e-newsletter, which Dan serves as Developer and Editor.

Additionally, he plans and coordinates all of the Foundation’s events. In 2013, NTUF’s Milton Friedman Legacy Day included over 800 participants from across the country to celebrate the life of the late economist. He also developed the popular game Cards Against Liberty that was popular at the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference and the International Students for Liberty Conference.

Co-creating NTU and NTUF’s internship programs, Dan worked with 13 interns in four different departments through policy discussions, career workshops, and skills training in the summer of 2014. He has also been a mentor for aspiring students in programs under the Institute for Humane Studies.

In 2011, Dan was admitted to the Koch Associate Program. The competitive fellowship develops free market knowledge and skills to promote the message of liberty more effectively. Associates take part in management training, professional development, and economic education. He founded the Alexandria chapter of Liberty on the Rocks -- a locally-based organization that networks individuals to increase the size and scope of the free market movement -- in 2011. He was also named a 2009 Summer Koch Fellow, an Institute for Humane Studies professional-development program. Prior to his joining NTUF, he was a Transparency and Accountability Analyst for the Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions in Columbus, Ohio. He compiled financial information of the state’s public school districts and managed a number of government transparency websites.

Dan graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Political Science with an emphasis on Political-Economy and Security Studies.
