Mattias Gugel is the Director of State External Affairs for the National Taxpayers Union. In this role, he researches, communicates, and advances sound tax and regulatory policy at the state level nationwide.

Before joining NTU, Gugel was a policy and communications director in the Wisconsin State Senate for eight years. While working in the Legislature, Mattias crafted and ran policy on various topics, including health care, education, public safety, technology, and taxes. He was also a digital and communications director on congressional, senatorial, and gubernatorial campaigns.

Gugel earned a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University and has been published in the Boston Globe and The Federalist.
