David Timmons is a Senior Policy Manager at the National Taxpayers Union. Prior to NTU, David worked in various federal government positions for over 18 years. Most recently, David has served on Capitol Hill as a Policy Advisor for Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), where he focused on Social Security, Veterans Affairs, flood insurance, paid leave, retirement and pensions, and unemployment. He also worked with the Senate Finance Committee on Social Security, paid leave, and tax issues.
Prior to his time on the Hill, David worked for over a decade at the Social Security Administration, where he initially served as a special assistant to the Commissioner, principal Deputy Commissioner, and the Deputy Commissioner for Retirement and Disability Policy. Later in his career at SSA, David wrote research papers and summaries on retirement policy and possible innovations in agency operations, served as a policy liaison with other internal agency offices, and represented SSA on research-related interagency committees and projects. David started his time in DC as a Policy Analyst and Project Manager with the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, where he helped lead the housing and transportation policy work for the Conference.
David earned his MS in public policy from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, and his BA in Economics and Political Science from UC Berkeley. As a California native, David is mourning for the former Pac-12 conference. In his free time, David likes to swing and salsa dance, as well as play volleyball on the National Mall.
